Scott Dickerson was honored to work with the Center for Alaskan Coastal Studies on their 2008 Kachemak Bay CoastWalk to help motivate and educate the public about the importance of keeping our coastal beaches clean. This year marked the 19th annual Kachemak Bay CoastWalk organized by CACS and as usual resulted in removing over a ton of trash from our local beaches. Scott gave eight slide show presentations to elementary, middle school, and college students, as well as the general community. The photographs and words shared focused on three main areas of importance: The beauty and richness of our Alaskan coastlines, the incredible wildlife that depend on these clean beaches, and the fun outdoor adventures that we enjoy in these special places. As a professional photographer, avid surfer, and recovering commercial fisherman Scott clearly has a deep connection to the environmental stewardship of our coastal areas.

To highlight surfer support for clean beaches, Homer photographer and surfer Scott Dickerson speaks at local schools this month for CoastWalk presentations. Tonight from 7-8 p.m. CoastWalk gets started with a potluck kick-off at the CACS building off Lake Street. Dickerson does a presentation, “Snapshots: Surfing and Saving Alaska’s Coasts.”
The Center for Alaskan Coastal Studies also hired Scott to document a CoastWalk effort by local McNeil Canyon Elementary School. Below are several of the resulting images.
