National Geographic Magazine published a conservation article about a controversial brown bear hunt in Katmai National Preserve. The Scott Dickerson photograph illustrating the piece shows a brown bear walking out of Kukaklek Lake with a salmon in its mouth moments before its death. On the bank behind the bear is a guide and two trophy hunters. The hunt is legally permitted, though many believe it’s ethically and scientifically wrong.
